UCL 250 - History of American Cities

This course examines the evolution of American cities from the colonial period to the present focusing on the emergence of settlement patterns including the physical design of cities and the developing system of cities. Particular attention is given to the growth within cities and the relationship between landforms and social institutions as it relates to the expansion of public responsibility for the welfare of urban residents.
